Summary

Divina Grey finds solace in nature, particularly during stressful times, and is looking forward to sharing this connection with nature by taking her children camping, despite not being fully prepared for the upcoming trip.

Abstract

The author, Divina Grey, describes a personal ritual of walking in a local park to decompress after challenging days at work. The park's natural setting, with its dirt path and the sounds of the environment, provides a rejuvenating experience that is both necessary and deeply missed when absent. Grey emphasizes the importance of nature in their life and expresses a desire to share this with their children through an upcoming camping trip. Although not fully prepared for the trip, Grey acknowledges the journey of life and personal growth, suggesting that progress is made step by step, or in this case, lap by lap around the park.

Opinions

  • The author values the restorative power of nature, finding peace and rejuvenation in a park's natural surroundings.
  • There is an appreciation for the simple sensory experiences, such as the sound of gritty ground crunching underfoot.
  • The author is excited yet acknowledges a lack of readiness for the camping trip with their children, indicating a balance between enthusiasm and practicality.
  • There is a sense of acceptance and optimism about personal preparation and progress, with the belief that one will reach their destination in due time.
  • The author seems to hold a philosophy that life's journey, much like their walks in the park, is about taking things one step at a time.

Nature Calls

Six-Word Photo Story Challenge

Nature is Calling My Name — Loudly.

Lately, I’ve been taking a detour on my way home from work to get my mind right after a chaotic day at a Skilled Nursing Facility. I drive to a park in my neighborhood where there’s a dirt path I follow around and around (miles, if I need it — and I do.) and wind down from the day while listening to the gritty ground crunch beneath my shoes.

Today, I grabbed my water, stepped out of my car into the blistering California heat, and this is what I saw above me.

Peace, Love, Light, and Rejuvenation.

Moments like this are why I need nature in my life — forever and always. And why I want to share those memories with my two favorite people in the whole wide world. But, as excited as I am to take my kids camping next week, I am zero percent ready for the trip.

And that’s okay.

I’ll get to where I’m going.

We all will — one lap at a time.
