My Unexpectedly Perfect Christmas Day…New Writers Welcome- December Competition
It might be hard for others to accept my fantasies, but this is MY dream so ANYTHING goes
The publication New Writers Welcome asked writers to describe “your perfect Christmas day” for it’s December writing contest.
Many thoughts ran through my head as to what would make a “perfect” Christmas day.
Regardless of the various scenarios that I’ve played out since I read about this contest, they all start with sleeping until I feel completely well rested and ready to get out of bed.
That is my wish every day, but oftentimes that does not happen.
Why the 2 photos of sleeping cats?
- First of all, cats make sleeping look like the BEST thing ever!
- Second of all, I very much miss the 2 cats I used to have (the story link below explains why I no longer have them)
- Thirdly, part of my “perfect Christmas day” dream is for my partner to give me a cat as a present

To continue with my perfect Christmas day…
After sleeping in until noon and still lying in bed pondering the night’s dreams, my partner brings me a cup of coffee just the way I like it- half vanilla soy milk and half organic arabica coffee- with a freshly baked chocolate croissant that he made (my dream, not reality).
He surprises me with flowers that he hand-picked and arranged, as well as raspberry porridge that he whipped up.
After eating this delicious brunch, I take some time to do a little ariel yoga (the story link below explains more about this style) with my new silk fabric that enables me to do this unique style of yoga (again, my dream, not reality).
Then it’s time to soak in a nice, long bubble bath…

Soothing music is playing in the background.
I feel rejuvenated, refreshed and ready to open lots of gifts that friends and family from the United States and Italy have mailed to me here in Germany.
But first, my partner asks me to sit on the floor and close my eyes. He wants to give me his gift first.
He kisses me sweetly, walks off and comes back.
My eyes are still closed.
I hear him place something that sounds like a basket down in front me.
He then points my head down a little and tells me to open my eyes.
I let out a gasp and squeal! But quietly so I don’t disturb the tiny fur babies…
They begin to stir after hearing our whispers and sensing our presence.
I pick both of them up at once and place them on my chest, smiling from ear to ear with tears rolling down both of my flushed cheeks.
They are the cutest things EVER…I am totally enthralled and enamored…with them and my partner.
After much playing and kissing, cuddling, snuggling and intimate loving, it’s time for me to step into my teleportation device and surprise my mom for Christmas.

Due to the pandemic, my overseas move, travel bans, country restrictions, COVID testing, immigration laws, visa limits and timing, I have not seen my family nor friends in the United States since I left in August, 2020.
This is my second holiday season without them.
It’s also the longest I’ve ever been apart from my mom without any visit.
Normally, my “perfect Christmas day” would be spent relaxing at home. I tend to visit family and friends the days before or after.
But this year…
I would absolutely LOVE to show up at my mom’s door and surprise her by ringing her bell and wrapping her up in THE BIGGEST HUG when she opens the door.
We would sit and talk and sip on hot cider while her 11 cats pranced all around me. I’d tell her about my 2 new kittens and show her photos of them, joking and laughing, simply enjoying each other’s company, as we shared our hopes and dreams for the New Year.

The End.
As part of this contest, I am tagging 3 people and sharing their stories that I’ve read recently and that have touched me in wonderful ways.
