My Time Will Come

Then I’ll be the one to envy.

Telling a story in only 100 words takes imagination. Such is the challenge of the 100 word Drabble. I hope you enjoy my 100-word entry using today’s word, objects.

I watch him fill his toolbox with objects of my desire. Shiny devices of chrome and steel.

Some are well-worn with battle scars from honorable campaigns to restore an important purpose. Others still waiting their turn to solve life’s inconveniences.

I look on with envy as he organizes his treasure trove of utensils. If only I could do the same.

I want to be like him.

The instant I reach for the newest gadget, the one still shimmering in its unspoiled glory, he objects. “You’re too young. Your time will come.”

“Okay Dad,” I reply. “I’m sorry. I’ll wait.”
