My Story with the HIGHEST Amount of Views is All Due to Fiverr!
Does it really matter if external views don’t pay?

Have you been following my stories about the Fiverr website? If you have, you already know that I believe this is an excellent site to help increase your writing income in a creative way.
But now I want to tell you how I actually purchased a Fiverr gig myself, and how that purchase helped to put hundreds of eyes on AT LEAST one of my stories.
After finally discovering why my highest amount of views for one story was able to go semi viral, I’m beginning to rethink how I use the Fiverr.com website.
If you pay close attention to what I’m about to say, I guarantee, you’ll find yourself thinking of all the ways you can benefit from this valuable site.
This happened to me…
My story views suddenly began to peak overnight
First, let me say that all the writers on Medium seem to have their own idea of this definition of “viral” so please, just indulge me and my fantasy for a bit.
In this particular case, viral means:
- The story had maybe a 100 views one day, and the next day, it began soaring up into the high hundreds.
- At some point, the story got curated and the numbers kept rising.
- Then I moved it to Illumination Curated, where it rose a little higher, then gradually began to settle back down.

All through these various transitions, all I could think was: “WTF?” I couldn’t understand why the sudden rush to read about smoothies.
Yep! you heard me. The story was about a blender that I used to make vegetable smoothies in, and I also added a few recipes.
I hadn’t done anything different in the way I promoted the story on Medium, or the way I was sending out either occasional, or automatic tweets. As far as I knew, there was nothing I could really credit for the increase in views.
Then it dawned on me…
The mystery was solved when I remembered the Fiverr gig order!
It was only recently that I realized why my story had gotten the exposure it did. I was able to narrow it down to the fact that a few months ago (probably a few weeks after I actually published the story), I paid $15 for a Fiverr gig.
I paid for someone to post a link and the title of the story on their health related blog. The Fiverr provider took my details and published the brief promotional comment and the link to the story, just as promised.
I viewed the blog where he posted the link and was content that the service had been carried out, but that was that. Eventually I forgot about it.
But as we know, everything on the internet has to work it’s way through the system and make it to the right people at the right time (aka: “the algorithms”).
I sincerely believe that the blog where my link was placed, suddenly began getting views, and that’s how my story started becoming more visible, outside of Medium.
Does a high amount of external views even matter?
I already knew that the views on the story were “external” views. Once I was able to associate them to something in particular, it all made sense.
That prompted me to really take a closer look at the advantages, if any, of having gotten all these views. So I said to myself: “Self, what exactly is the deal with external views?”
External views meant:
- The views weren’t from Medium members on the platform
- I wasn’t receiving any monetary compensation for the views
- No matter how high, there wasn’t any noticeable advantage to having them
But then I considered these thoughts:
- What if some of those views (even just 1%) had actually decided to return and become a Medium member, but I just didn’t know it? They may already be among my existing followers.
- What if my Medium referral link had been available and at the end of the story back then? The story peaked before the referral program started, otherwise, new members might have been able to join with my referral link so I could receive a small monthly commission.
Final Thoughts
Now that I realize the potential to be able to really reach a wide audience through Fiverr, I definitely plan to figure out how to tap into this opportunity a little better.
I love the idea of helping to support other creatives like myself. Fiverr allows them to continue to earn money through freelancing, just like we’re all trying to do by writing on Medium.
That is why, for the remainder of the year, I plan to utilize the services of Fiverr gig providers even more.
Not only can I get help in completing some of my online activities and promotional projects, but at the same time, I’ll be getting more exposure for my DAILY JUSTISS publication and other stories I publish here on Medium.
If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to:
- Look into Fiverr.com and consider some of the many benefits of connecting with other creatives, as well as offering your own services.
- Purchase an inexpensive gig, and allow them to mention and help expose one or more of your stories.
- Order a service from a Fiverr gig service provider, and get help on one or more of your other online activities.
