My Spirit

A poem

Photo by Mohamed Nohassi on Unsplash

Standing still, looking out to sea, I reflected upon the state of me, The busyness I once held inside, My thoughts like gnawing parasites.

The glistening water, clean and clear, Reminds me of all I hold so dear, No monkey-mind, no buzzing brain, No looking backward with nothing to gain.

Instead, a soft-focused spirit, just me, Living in the present, breathing, happily. As the water laps, a rhythmic sway, I am eternally grateful for every day.

Gratitude, meditation, and focusing on the present have helped me deal with so many downs in recent years, not just this particularly strange and difficult 2020.

I am grateful every single day for the technology that allows me to keep in touch with my loved ones on the other side of the planet, to maintain connections through writing, to be able to share ideas and thoughts so easily. I am grateful I have a supportive network of people who support me throughout my journey called life.

To keep my spirit healthy I connect with nature, luckily just outside my door, connecting with the water that surrounds my archipelago home, the seasons, so distinct and extreme compared to those I grew up with, the forests that infuse the air with oxygen, refreshing my body and soul.

~thanks for reading~
