She Built A World

A Poem inspired by ‘imagination’

She built a world, safe, quiet, inside. She filled it, with joy, sadness, beauty, anguish. A mirror-world, mimicking reality, but safe, quiet.

Flower beds bloomed, orange, red, yellow. Stately trees grew tall, spreading branches wide, knarled trunks, solid. Birds flew past, chirruping, chirping, nesting, foraging, dying.

The wind, tinged with the chill of the mountains, just like reality. But she is safe, warm, alone, in the silence, inside.

The prompt ‘imagination’ got me thinking about the internal landscape we often build for ourselves. Sometimes it can be a refuge from the outside world. Maybe it can sometimes be the same as reality but without the noise, the pressure, the anxiety? This connection and refuge can be a source of creativity, or possibility, of peace.
