Positive Thinking — #ILLUMINATION
My Silver Lining in This Mess
My response to Sherry McGuinn and Helen Cassidy Page
In COVID-19 Silver lining everywhere Do you not see it?
My dear friend and (s)hero, Helen Cassidy Page, challenged me to share my Silver Lining in the current chaos. How can I not comply?
Here is the story in which she tagged me.
So I wrote a story. It was to be for a pub called Promposity. I was not one of their writers, so I sent in my request to join, with an explanation. I later found out the owner/editor of Promposity, Natalie Frank, Ph.D., was recuperating at home from her bout with COVID-19. I hope you’re doing well, Natalie.
The post was sitting in my drafts for a week or so, when my dear friend and inspiration Sherry McGuinn, posted this on Illumination about silver lining and tagged me in it.
I figured I’d kill two birds with one stone.
My problem is that I am a die-hard optimist. I very seldom see darkness, so it is hard for me to find silver linings.
I wrote a story when this mess first started that I will share here.
Is that a cop-out? I don’t know, but I felt that way. What can I do? What can I do?
Recently, I have taken up an interest in writing haiku. So I created a haiku that you see at the top of this post.
What prompted me to start taking an interest in haiku, you ask? That’s the silver lining in this mess.
You see, in the middle of the outbreak, I received an invitation like none other.
The more I thought about it, the more I was inspired to join the community. Once I started submitting stories to #ILLUMINATION, my Medium journey took a new turn. My stats started moving up, my daily income doubled, and I made friends with some outstanding writers, editors, and publishers.
One such publisher is Simran Kankas, who invited me to write for her publication, Spiritual Tree, where she issues a weekly prompt. Haiku is a popular format there, so I thought I’d give it a try.
I am a firm believer that if you look for it, you might even find something good in hell. However, I would rather stay out of there than try to prove my point; if you know what I mean.
So there is my Silver Lining in the middle of this mess. I learned a new skill and made new friends, and I like it.
