My response to Adrienne Beaumont’s writing prompt:

Think about a person in your life. Imagine them sitting next to you. How do you feel?

My Aunt Jeanette.

Aunt Jeanette. Katie Michaelson.

I feel overwhelmed with grief and warmth.

I hope as you look from heaven, you’re proud of me. How self-centered of me. Of course, you're proud of me. You looked at each person who came across your path as one of God's children. You saw our strengths.

I cherish all the time I had sitting at your kitchen table late at night solving all the problems of the world.

You never had children. I hope you see that you were a mother, the one who gave love and taught kindness to countless little ones. I always wanted to be like you — still do.

I miss you.

Love, Little Katie
