My Most Embarrassing Secret and What I’m Doing About It
Thank you for stopping by on this journey!
There is something about me that you wouldn’t know if you saw me on a good day. Something I struggle with internally and externally. If there was something about myself that I could change, this would definitely be it.
I’ve kept this from most of my friends, some family members, and anyone that I imagine would see me differently. (Which is most I fear) I work very hard to keep my secret a secret, until now that is.
So, here it goes. I am a young woman who suffers from thinning hair and hair loss.
A lot of factors can come into play when you ask “why?”
Hormones, stress, diet, damage, etc.
I could say this has resulted from years of heat styling and skipping conditioner, but I’ve naturally always had fine, thin hair. However, after having my second child, I started losing my hair in chunks.
Where beforehand, I used to color treat my hair without fear, but I can’t anymore for fear more will break or fall out. Seeing clumps of my hair in the bottom of the shower made me want to make changes, for me.
My thinning hair loss has taken a toll on my self-confidence. I have tried parting it to hide thinning areas on my scalp, teasing for volume, purchasing numerous different kinds of hair growth vitamins and shampoos, but nothing seemed to help for the longest time.
I am a believer that everyone has that one thing that will work for them. With hair care, usually you have to wait months before you see results. It’s disheartening when you feel like you wasted months and lots of money on products that did not end up working for you.
It took me two years before I found products that actually worked for my hair. I cried the first time I saw new “baby hair,” growing. If you suffer from hair loss or thinning hair like I do, I would like to share these tips with you. Here is the routine I found that works best for me!
Pea Sprout Extract
All the products I tried containing this extract worked for me. I call it the secret ingredient. It actually caused my hair to grow faster by “shortening” the hair growth cycle. If you are looking for quicker results, I strongly suggest giving pea sprout extract a try! It also feeds the hair essential nutrients boosting it’s overall health.
Check out the link below for more information on pea sprout extract and other healthy ingredients for your hair!
Towel Drying
I quit using a hair dryer, and all heat styling tools. The heat can damage your hair encouraging unwanted breakage. Instead, I towel dry and use a light conditioning spray that doesn’t weigh my fine hair down.
Cutting Out The Dry Shampoo
Being a busy mom, this was the hardest to give up in my hair care routine. Overusing dry shampoo strips your hair of natural oils it needs to stay healthy and grow strong. For stronger hair, swap out dry shampoo with blotting papers, if oil gets out of hand.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in water. After your shampoo and conditioning routine, work the mixture into your scalp and let sit for one minute. Rinse out thoroughly. This will help exfoliate your scalp reducing dandruff and stimulate your hair follicles.
Eat a Well Balanced Diet
You may not be getting all the nutrients you need if you are suffering from hair loss or brittle nails. Talk to your doctor or nutritionist to evaluate your health and diet.
Getting More Sleep
This may be surprising, but sleep does play a role in hair growth as hormones can come into play with puzzling hair loss. Sleep deprivation has also been thought to negatively impact hair growth cycles.
Cut Off Split Ends
Schedule routine hair appointments to trim off split ends. This will help your hair grow stronger and healthier.
Try Natural Shampoos and Conditioners
In my own personal experience, the less the ingredients that I couldn’t pronounce on the back the better my hair has grown. Choose a natural brand of shampoo or conditioner to keep unwanted ingredients off your scalp. Do not chemically treat your hair while you are working towards hair growth.
Keep Conditioner Off Your Scalp
Applying conditioner to the scalp, caused me in my own experience a lot of buildup and eventually slower hair growth. Applying conditioner to the mid section of my hair and especially the very ends gave me the best results without weighing my hair down or sacrificing silky, smooth hair.
Now you know my secret and what I have been doing about it. Believe me, I have tried many different things for my hair; the above routine seems to work the best for me. If you are a young woman suffering like me with unexpected thinning hair and hair loss, you are not alone. I share with you my story, and what I’m doing on this journey, and I hope it can help you too.
My Progress
My hair used to grow very slowly (an inch every few months.) Now, my hair has grown about an inch every month, and I am pleased to see my regrowth progress. The above routine is helping me get my hair back, and I hope it can help anybody reading this.
Thank you for reading my story! :)
