One Month Of Bullet Journaling
BuJo or Not BuJo: The Artful Path to Productivity
Since you’re here. I’m going to hazard a guess that you’re on a quest for productivity and self-improvement. Lately, I too have caught this bug. My investigative YouTube surfing guided me onto the path of Bullet Journalling or BuJo.
I was curious. I’ve always been into journaling recreationally.
But BuJo offered me a methodology to systematically organise my life and thoughts. The brain behind this method, Ryder Caroll describes it as,
The mindfulness practice that works likes a productivity system. The System focuses on What you’re doing, providing tools capture and organize your thoughts. The Practice focuses on Why you’re doing what you’re doing, providing rituals to help you shed distractions and keep your actions aligned with your values.
I soon realised that this was quite the fad! YouTube was filled with people sharing their experiences, lessons, fancy templates, and stories of flirting with this system.

Key Takeaways
After sifting through a bunch of content (as you can see). I curated a toolkit for my BuJo journey. Here it goes.
Keep it simple and minimal
Be consistent
It's okay to make mistakes
It need not be a DaVinci masterpiece
Make it your own!
Experimentation is key
Determined to implement my newfound expertise. I picked up a fresh notebook, collected some stationary, and sat down to try my hand at BuJo.
My Bullet Journal
Here’s What I learned
BuJo helped me get things done!
There's something to putting things on paper and crossing them off once a task is accomplished. Not only did it boost my confidence it motivated me to do better every day.
I evolved.
A popular template is the habit tracker. I decided to give it a shot. I chose to monitor parameters such as water intake, diet, menstrual cycle, and workouts (trying to be healthy you see). In September, I tried out a calendar approach for tracking my vitals.
Habit Tracker: September 2023
You don’t have to say it, I know. This sucked. It looked tedious, complicated, cluttered, and mostly unattractive. This didn’t feel like me. So in October, I graduated to this template.

I’ll be real with you. Even this is not ideal (you can clearly see how I messed up marking the weekends). Ah well! But it’s certainly better. The visual layout spoke to me more effectively as a result I became more regular with recording my vitals.
Productivity is not Boring
If you follow my content you know I enjoy art. ( Here’s proof!)
To ensure I keep with my new habit. I turned my BuJo into an art canvas. The artsier the better, you see.

Closing Notes
Maybe a month is too short a while to conclusively comment on a system’s merit and efficacy. But BuJo has certainly been a fun learning experience for me!
If you’re still deliberating over whether to experiment with Bullet Journaling or not, I hope my perspective nudges you to take that leap of faith.
Remember the scariest part is always the beginning.
And in case you’re already aboard the BuJo wagon, respond with your takes on how you journal. I’d love to learn!
