From Doodles to Delight: 5 Reasons Why You Should Take up Artful Journaling

A picture is worth a thousand words. But I’ll do you one better. Capture that picture in ink and colour amidst a rusty notebook. Add a few souvenirs. The first fallen leaf of fall, a postcard from a past adventure or a movie ticket from your first date. Viola! There you have it, a whole new world existing in between crinkling pages. Journaling is my way of preserving life’s highlights to nostalgically (and selfishly) enjoy them later and here’s why you should take it up too!
Unleash your Imagination

We’ve all been a creative dry spell. Putting a pen to paper can be the solution to your problems during such a period. It doesn’t matter if your art looks like a potato with arms (beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder after all), let your creative juices wild on the paper and witness how clarity soon begins to dawn over you.
Graphic Stroll Down Memory Lane

Some moments in life are worthy of eternal preservation. Not only is it fun to curate your own memory portal in your sketchbook its even more delightful to look back upon some blasts from the past and relish sweet nostalgia.
Be Authentically and Fearlessly You

Your journal is a judgement free space. It rejects all attempts towards censorship and is determined in its resolve to be unabashedly honest. Let your heart spill onto those pages, and you’ll find the weight lifting from your chest.
A Great Pick Me Up

When the going gets tough, reminiscing about the good old times provides solace and renews the spirit. During the pandemic-induced lockdown, journaling gave me much comfort. It was a rare source of positivity in a world filled with gloom and uncertainty.
Free Therapy!
Is the hurry and strife of life starting to get to you? Pour some hot tea, sit back and open your notebook. It allows you to zone out all environmental noise and directs your focus onto a canvas, which I find oddly therapeutic. There is also ample literature available to prove the efficacy of art therapy in improving the mental health of individuals.
I can vouch from my personal experience that one should sincerely try to cultivate and retain a journal. It activates the mind, reenergises the body, and keeps our doldrums at bay by providing much-needed comfort during turbulent times.
Happy Doodling!
