My Letter From Boss Girl in America To Snail Girl In Spain

My reflection from being a boss girl to becoming a snail girl

Once upon a time, I was a Boss Girl, an ambitious young woman with the confidence and resilience to challenge stereotypes and push for success.

I wanted to pursue my dreams and be unafraid of taking charge of my own life, inspiring others with my strength and determination.

But when it came to reaching for my goals, there was no better place than going to America — although it also meant uprooting myself from family and friends, and facing the unknown. But it was the best place for a boss girl.

I kept hustling, achieving, and growing, so I could succeed in competitive America.

Indeed, I succeeded and for many, it looked like a success.

I had achieved all the successes I had dreamed of, yet felt empty.

No matter how much I tried to focus on my work or revel in my accomplishments, the feeling of something being missing lingered, always tugging at me with something that couldn’t be put into words.

But all of that changed when I went on vacation to Nicaragua and met lovely people who owned nothing only big smiles.

Then we decided to join them, my husband and I, after observing their way of life for a week.

But when political unrest broke out, we had no choice but to flee in the middle of the night. That’s how I found myself in Spain, wanting nothing more than serenity and calmness.

And thus began my journey as the “snail girl.”

According to search engine the definition “snail girl” in the context of the “snail girl era” represents a cultural movement, particularly popular on platforms like TikTok, where young women are embracing a slower, more deliberate approach to life and work.

It signifies a rejection of the fast-paced, high-pressure corporate and startup culture, and instead, encourages individuals to prioritize their well-being, mental health, and personal fulfillment.

The “snail girl era” advocates for taking time for self-care, setting one’s own pace, and emphasizing a balanced and mindful lifestyle over relentless ambition and productivity.

Yes, the new trend I’ve been following for a few years now has become popular, and I’m really happy about it.

Well done, girls!

This is true power.

We thought that if we followed the idea of an all-powerful successful woman who could do anything and have the world at her feet, we’d find success — but instead, we found exhaustion and emptiness.

And that is why I translated the meaning of snail girl into my life.

Slowly, I found myself shedding the tough exterior I had built up in America.

I started to embrace a new identity — one that was more laid-back, and more carefree.

I traded in my high heels for comfortable sandals, and my power suits for airy sundresses and sweatpants.

And as I did, I realized that I was happier and more fulfilled than I had ever been before.

Of course, there were still challenges.

My Spanish was barely passable, and I struggled even to get an internet connection in our new home.

But the people I encountered were so kind and hospitable, even though some had less than me.

It took me a full four years to find my farm and start my true ‘snail girl’ life.

Anyway, I don’t think, I could become a snail girl in America, the beacon of hustling.

So if any of you want to become snail girls or boys then you need to find a place with a slower pace.

But you never know and maybe America one day becomes the slow-paced place.

Today, you can’t be sure of anything.
