My Journey Off Coffee
Tea blend updates and more

In my article Halloween Treat — My Last Cup Of Coffee Dr. Preeti Singh encouraged me to report out on “how successful you were in leaving the coffee”.
It has been a week since I had any coffee. The week has been going well. It has been surprisingly easy not to have any coffee at all. Prior to my experiment, I have been having one to two cups of coffee a day.
I have been drinking different types of green teas and herbal teas in the morning. Green teas have wonderful health benefits. They have antioxidant properties and still have some caffeine in them. I’m also working on not having green tea every morning and substituting it with herbal tea mixtures.
A few of my favorite herbal teas include Asian pear, goji berry, mint, pomegranates with wild raspberry and pomegranates with cranberry.

My Sunday treat was a very special herbal mix that was partially made by me. I used Goji berries and those berries were bought in the store. I also used mint that has grown in my backyard. I picked and dried those mints just a few weeks ago. Additionally, I used dried red currants which I picked and dried this summer.
I put about 1 tablespoon of each ingredient in one of my favorite mugs and added hot water. I let it soak for about five minutes and slowly drink the tea. The aroma and the taste were wonderful. The berries give both a tart and sweet taste to the tea blend. I left all the ingredients in the tea while drinking which allowed me to have the berries as well as the tea. My tea “salad”.
The mint leaves will sink to the bottom of the cup after sitting for a while.

Today’s treat is a hot chocolate for the morning which I’m thinking to have maybe once a week to remind me of my coffee. It is a delicious substitute.
For my hot chocolate, I boiled the water, and in the meantime, I placed in my mug one teaspoon of unsweetened organic cocoa powder, about one teaspoon of Stevia, and a hint of cinnamon. I poured the hot water over my mixture to fill the cup about halfway. Optional: you can add a pinch of your favorite hot pepper for spice. I mixed everything well together until all the ingredients dissolved. I added organic coconut milk and mixed everything again. I am slowly enjoying my delicious treat for the morning. The chocolate “milk” drink tastes wonderful.
As of now, I have not been missing coffee. I am surprised because I thought at least I will have some cravings for it. I have not had any.
I hope you enjoyed my coffee substitute tea and hot cocoa recipe. Please share your favorite coffee, tea or hot drink recipes and experiences if you like.
