My Hypnotic Muse

A Poem in response to James G Brennan’s prompt “hypnotic”

Photo by Benoit Beaumatin on Unsplash

The prompt “hypnotic” buzzes in my head Like a housefly — annoying. I cannot let it be.

So, to my keyboard I fly Words swirling in my head I must get them down, I simply must!

But as I focus on one, another elbows in Pushing others aside Play nice, my friends, I say, play nice.

But still the words spiral in my head I grab one and throw it down. No, it simply will not do.

I try another, but it’s no good either. What can I do?

Focus, I say, Focus! And calm yourself. There, that’s better.

Now watch the gleaming pendant As it swings Back and forth, back and forth.

Ah yes, that’s better, much better. You are relaxed; you are getting sleepy. Your eyelids flutter and close.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You dream of words flying to the page I hasten to write them down Your mutterings so beautiful, you poetic muse.

And when I wake The poem’s done while I in this hypnotic state Did nothing but record the muse.

Recorded in response to James G Brennan’s prompt: “hypnotic” in his poem “Hammock Time”. Nicely done, James.

The never-ending poem owes it’s origin to Martin Rushton

I put forth the prompt muse and tag the following stellar poets to continue the chain, if they so choose by composing a poem, haiku, etc., tagging me and sending forth a prompt of their own choosing to 10 others:

Annelise Lords, Aurora Eliam, CMP, Beth Stormont, Caroline de Braganza, Carolyn Riker, Charlene Fate, Chris Hedges, Harley King, Indra Raj Pathak, John C Davis.
