My First Hero
A Poem on the beautiful father-daughter relationship
Do you remember the day I was born, You were pacing nervously on the hospital lawn. You leaped in excitement when the nurse said, ‘’Its a girl’’ That was the first time you felt a father’s heart swirl.
You ran around everywhere distributing sweets, Your happiness soon went viral on the Bombay streets. Mom could see the stars clearly in your eyes, Your ecstasy had now conquered the limitless skies.
You did everything for me a father should, You stood to protect me like an arduous hood. No one could dare cast an evil eye on your daughter, They knew they would be subjected to an agonizing slaughter.
You were my superhero, my superman, Don’t know about others but I was truly your biggest fan. You were tall and dark and oh so handsome, Ladies if could have, pledged a complete anthem.
Your only dream was to make me a lawyer, Advocate Bhavna, that's what people should call her. You left no stone unturned to make me a genius like you, If only you knew what life was going to put us through.
You left this world leaving your daughter alone, You could have done much more if only you had known. But don’t you worry your daughter is very strong, She has kept your brave legacy intact all the way along.
Sorry, that I am not even close to being a lawyer, But I promise I have always got your reputation getting taller. Your daughter has never done anything that will put you down, She has in fact earned herself a dignified crown.
I hope your soul remains peaceful wherever you are, You’re and will always be my priceless shining star. Thank god I have got an off from my work today, So let me take this moment and wish you with all my heart — ‘’A Very Happy Birthday.’’
