My February 2024 Earning Report!

Changing my Strategy for March.

Photo by Alexander Grey on Unsplash

It could be said that I’m still a new writer.

I started my journey as a Medium writer on December 4th, 2023. I did not join solely to earn money, but as a way to freely express myself and share my knowledge and experiences on various topics. Writing has always been cathartic for me — it helps me process my thoughts and emotions.

In the past three months, I’ve written about diverse subjects like changing my college major, managing stress, nourishing friendships, my reflections on forgiveness, feelings during the holidays, my frustration about multiple job interview rejection, and life in general. I try to write consistently and stay disciplined, though during some busy days, it’s a struggle to find the time.

Here are my story stats for February (by the way, I still don’t know what happened on February 28th, I got 104 views and only 33 reads, you can find that story at the end of this article):

And what about my earnings?

Here is a brief summary:

  • $30.05 in December 2023 — not bad considering that it was my first month as a writer.
  • $106.48 in January 2024 — this exceeded my expectations for a second month of writing but also caused me to set a very high target for February.
  • My earnings for February: $145.44 (my goal for February was $300 but by mid-February, I noticed that my goal was definitely not easy to accomplish).

I am happy and proud of the $145.44 earned in February, especially as I don’t see Medium as a “money maker” but as a way to improve my writing skills and read other amazing writers.

What about my Audience Stats?

I gained 281 followers and 8 new subscribers. The progress may seem slower than the one I had in January but I consider as you grow and gain more attention it also gets more difficult to keep growing at the same pace. So I’m proud and thankful for my actual number of followers and subscribers!

What is Next?

I have decided not to set an earning target for March. Setting a target did not work for me last month, at mid-February I was already disappointed as I could see that my $300 target was getting impossible to reach. That feeling led me to write as a mandatory daily activity and limited my enjoyment of writing.

So… no target for March, just let it flow, write with passion, read with passion, and let’s see how it ends.

March will be my 4th month as a writer on Medium, I’ve learned a lot and I’m thankful for what I receive from this community. I still cringe at some of my first stories and had even thought about deleting them as they seemed pretty amateur. But that’s part of the learning process, isn’t it?

On my Medium journey thus far, the connections I’ve made with readers and other writers mean the most to me. Even more than earnings, knowing my stories resonate with people or make them feel better, gives me great motivation to continue writing!

I’m endlessly grateful for your readership and can’t wait to continue creating content and developing as a writer. Please let me know any feedback you may have! I want to learn from you all! THANK YOU!
