Medium is a Community
What I’ve learned so far…
My husband joined Medium back in January, and I saw how much fun he was having. He was incredibly encouraging. He said that he always thought that I was a writer, he could just tell. So, on September twenty-ninth of this year, I signed up and self-published my first story “Among the Pine Trees”, which The Scriber’s Nook later accepted.
Since then it’s been a whirlwind. I’m addicted. My first publication was Crush Hundo Edition. They have a daily prompt word, and they limit you to around 100 words. And I haven’t missed a day.
THINGS I’VE DISCOVERED
1. I love prompts. I’m new to this, and I don’t always have stories swirling around in my head. But give me a prompt and I’m off to the races.
2. I love feedback. I thrive on it. It gives me an idea of what stories are working, and which aren’t. And with the shorter publications, like Crush Hundo Edition, Fiction Shorts and Short.Sweet.Valuable., I get an idea of what stories I should expand on.
3. Writing something every day is vital. It’s important to get those thoughts and ideas out of your head. I just keep writing, no matter what genre.
4. Medium is a community. When you are accepted into a publication you get to know the writers and editors. Those who publish end up becoming a little family who support each other and give feedback.
So, keep on writing, write whatever is on your mind. And don’t be afraid to use a prompt if you need it. Many publications offer them, you can even ask your partner or a friend for one. If you keep writing, I’ll keep reading!
Thank you for reading my story. I’d love to hear your opinions.
