My Experience Getting Banned on Medium and How I Responded
Yesterday, while I was reading and trying to comment on my friends’ stories on Medium, I realized there was an error.
I thought something was wrong with the Medium app. So, I waited a while and tried again, but it was still the same. I checked my profile settings and found out that my account was found in violation of the Medium Rules.
Let’s start with a little chit-chat with my cat, Panda.
Panda: “Hey John! Why do you look so anxious and paranoid?”
Me: “What the heck! I was banned on Medium. What did I do?”
Panda: “Did you post any copyrighted articles or some pornographic photos? (Panda giggles) You seem dry these days, John.”
Me: “Listen, Panda, please get out of here before I give you a flying kick.”
Panda: “Chill, John. Haha. Don’t panic. I’m always around to help. Just email Medium support and appeal. They might have made a mistake. I’m sure you didn’t post any pornographic stories. Haha.”
Me: “Oh, Panda! You’re getting smarter these days! Let me try to submit a support ticket. Later, I will buy you tuna bites if this works.”
Panda: “Ok, deal!”
This is just some lighthearted humor to start off and ease my tension. I was really panicking about what really happened. I quickly submitted a support ticket and here’s the reply from Medium:
Hello, It looks like your Medium account was mistakenly caught in our spam filter. I have now restored your account and/or any affected post(s). Thanks, Trust & Safety
Everything is good and I’m back here. I won’t disappear without saying goodbye. You guys keep me going here at Medium. I have learned many things and how to come up with ideas for my stories.
But I also learned from this lesson to never put all my eggs in one basket. After all, Medium has the right to suspend any account. I have an affiliate site and other ongoing side hustles that need some work.
I’m sorry if I missed out on some of your stories.
