Abstract

In the poetic piece titled "My Changing Fortunes," Jupiter Grant shares a personal transformation from a life that "stunk" to one filled with optimism and enjoyment. Despite not achieving financial success or physical perfection, the author recognizes the significant shift in their circumstances and attitudes. They attribute this change to a combination of factors, including the support of readers, therapists, doctors, and the universe. The poem is a response to a poetry prompt challenge by Sahil Patel, which asks participants to reflect on their belief in their own luck. Jupiter Grant extends heartfelt thanks to a multitude of individuals, including family, medical professionals, and the spiritual aspect of the self (Ātman), emphasizing the collective impact of these relationships on their well-being. The author also tags a long list of fellow writers and friends, inviting them to engage with the prompt. The piece concludes with a humble nod to Jupiter Grant's own accomplishments as a self-published author and content creator, along with a link for readers to support their work.

My Changing Fortunes

Asking myself “Do I feel lucky?” (Well do you punk?)

I ask myself the question, “do you feel lucky (punk)”? In truth I didn’t use to, no, my life had rather stunk.

But then by happy circumstance my fortunes started changing and suddenly I’ve found that life is somehow rearranging.

I’m still not rich or selling lots of copies of my books, and I am still not beautiful and blessed with perfect looks.

I struggle still in many ways and yet I’m optimistic. The universe no longer seems so vicious and sadistic.

The recent years of misery now seem a world away. These days my life is colorful not dismal, drab, and grey.

(Touch wood) I am enjoying life, and hope it will continue. I know not who to credit for ‘t but my own hard work, and YOU.

YOU, who take time in your days to read the words I’ve written. YOU, who fills my heart with hope and with whom I am smitten.

YOU, my dearest advocate who always had my back. YOU, the therapist who helped me get my life on track.

YOU, the doctors numerous who rid me of disease. YOU, my lucky ladybird, and your neighbor, bumblebee.

YOU, my kin who help me out when I am in a jam. and YOU, Ātman, my Soul, my Self, that makes me who I am.
