My Blue-Collar Husband

Some wives don't know The smell of gas or diesel When he walks in the door
His exhaustion His thoughts of needing to provide Doing the best he can
Without college Without a white-collar Without the respect
Not knowing how proud we are
His daily Tylenol His early mornings Before the sun
His late nights Helping the kids With their spelling words
The weight he carries on his shoulders That we can’t take away The example he sets for these little men
Tired of being tired He doesn't want to live paycheck to paycheck He does what he can to be strong
He does what his dad did But differently He will be here longer
I hope
He fights his demons He leads the way to a new normal Strong, sturdy, reliable
He doesn't see himself that way though You are exactly what they need, I promise Thank you husband
