My backyard turned into an ant homicide zone this summer.

I’m so jealous of Adrienne Parkhurst’s tale of her sugar war zone as I adore hummingbirds.

At the beginning of summer, I took out our red hummingbird feeder to fill with their beloved sugary drink. I noticed I wasn’t seeing many at the feeder, but the liquid feed was going down. After a week, I went to grab the feeder to clean it in between refills.

What I found were dozens of dead ants floating in the feeder. As I slowly put my arm down, I noticed the highway of ants trailing from the ground below the deck, up the deck railing, up the pole to the feeder, and right into the feeder to drown.

Now I see why the hummingbirds weren’t coming around.

P.S. I hate bugs.
