My Appeal To Evan Williams Being Noticed

I am glad to see the response…

A few days ago, I wrote an appeal to Ev Williams regarding the problems freelance writers have been facing on this site. I received a large number of responses and private notes. The pseudo-Ev Williams (original GranPa-Festus) described things in their own way, and I thank them for taking the time to read my post. Even Dr. Mehmet Yildiz left their opinions, and then fellow writer Holly Kellums wrote about their experience.

After reading their posts, comments, and private notes, I have decided to bring a few more things to my fellows’ attention.

The Difference Between Cash And Connection

There is a big difference between cash and connection. Some of us are publishing stories to build an audience and to meet new people, and some writers are writing for money.

If you don’t need money by writing articles or have other sources of income, it doesn’t mean you should demotivate our aspiring writers.

I understand that we need to spend more time reading and improving our writing before we could expect the money to roll in. The truth is that I raised my voice on behalf of the writers who are a little frustrated because their earnings are being stripped away. Tim Denning is one of them, and I have already shared the screenshot of his email.

It’s Time To Set Some Writing Rules

In my opinion, this is the time when respected Evan Williams should set some rules of working. One of them is that not every person should be welcomed to the platform to publish their stories and to share ideas. Instead, the site should work like NewsBreak where writers are told how many views they need to get to receive money and how many words a story should have. Or else, it should be like Vocal where every single story is checked before it goes live.

Another thing I like about NewsBreak and Vocal is that they have set rules of how much a writer can earn per 1000 views/reads. On NewsBreak, it is something from $3 to $4 per 1000 views, and on Vocal, the range is $3.80 to $6 per 1000 reads. This at least gives writers an idea of how much they will be paid when they share their stories to get more views/reads. While working on this platform, we are not told what we’ll get in terms of money. Sometimes, a story getting only a couple of reads receives up to $20 instantly, and sometimes even hundreds to thousands of reads don’t matter. I know that the reading time of paid members is counted toward the money, but at this point, writers should also be given information on how many paid members have been engaged with their stories.

I Am Not Criticizing Anybody

I love all of my fellow writers and respect Evan Williams and the whole team working behind the scene to keep this site alive. I have no intention of criticizing anyone. I am just trying to raise my voice about the things that have probably not been discussed before.

Thank you for your precious comments and feedback.

Have a great time ahead!
