My Almost Daily Journal-Enjoying Skiing With My Son/The Seasonal Tree/February Brings Another Snowstorm
Volume 19-Tag Along With Me on My Sometimes Boring Sometimes Interesting Sometimes Humorous Journey Through Life

Welcome back. Here we are in February already. Where did January go? For us, the first part of January is always busy taking down our many Christmas decorations. However, our decorating doesn’t end with Christmas. We have a tree in our dining room that is always up and decorated. The seasonal tree. Right now, it is decorated for Valentine’s Day. I will post some photos in future journal entries.
Meanwhile, after getting in 5 cross-country skiing outings in January, I was lucky enough to spend the first day of February skiing with my son. We usually try to go at least once during the Winter. This turned out to be a perfect day for skiing in many ways.

The morning temperature was around zero, but it quickly warmed to the upper 20’s when we headed out around 11 AM. The morning cold ensured that the snow would be crisp and fast. This was the warmest day we had in weeks, and it felt good. For skiing, however, you don’t always want warmer temperatures for various reasons, including ski glide (too warm and snow sticks to the skis). Also, too warm and you end up overheating since cross-country skiing involves so much exertion.
We ended up skiing in the Pharsalia NY State Forest, a beautiful location only about 20 minutes from my house. It contains over 9000 acres and has many trails. We skied on Coy Street for about 2 miles, then back to the car. I wrote about this location a year ago. It is a wonderful trail to ski, very straight with gentle hills and beautiful woods. You can’t go wrong.
Winter Storm Landon
Here in Central NY State, we missed Winter Storm Kenan last weekend as it walloped the Northeast nearer the coast. Landon is coming from the Midwest unlike most of the storms this Winter, which have been Nor'easters. This storm brought major icing to many areas already and promises heavy snow also to more Northern areas. We are supposed to get about 6 inches overnight after we received a period of freezing rain and sleet this afternoon and evening.
