My Almost Daily Journal-Bird Photos, and Yes, We Did Get the Snowstorm (Izzy)

Volume 15-Tag Along With Me on My Sometimes Boring Sometimes Interesting Sometimes Humorous Journey Through Life

Welcome back. I hope you enjoy my journal entries. First, it was the sub-zero temperatures. Then the wind. Then the snow. Winter is now complete; we have received the whole package.

However, it is January, and here in Central NY it is to be expected. In late December I was wondering if we would ever get snow. We did get quite a few small snow amounts in November and December, but it seemed to melt quickly each time. I think this time it is here for a while.

Izzy brought us about 8 or 9 inches of the white stuff. It certainly transforms the landscape. The change in seasons here is certainly amazing. Looking out over the white landscape, Summer seems so far away. But before we know it, Spring will be here followed by Summer. But first things first.

I will be getting out to enjoy the fresh snow this week on my cross-country skis. Maybe tomorrow. I recently wrote an article about the first outing of the year, and actually, I was out again on Sunday (16th) just hours before Izzy began. However, the conditions will now be much better for skiing. There was just barely enough snow for my first two outings.

Bird Photos

As most of you know, I love birdwatching, feeding birds, and photographing them. I have written many articles on birdwatching and shared many photos. In November I wrote this article to encourage readers to try birdwatching. I particularly enjoy this hobby in the Winter since my feeders are up and it’s easier to see the birds and photograph them.

In the Summer I don’t feed them nearly as much, although I do leave one feeder up and occasionally put a little food out. Just to see who visits. One Summer I had juvenile Cardinals and Blue Jays. Most birds in the Summer are heard, not seen as they perch high in the trees and sing. It is a real challenge to identify them sometimes.

I hope you enjoy my photos and even more I hope you give birdwatching a try if you haven’t before now. It is a very relaxing hobby and a wonderful family activity.

Stay tuned throughout the Winter for more bird photos and articles.
