My 3 G’s

Daily words to guide me

cinquain and sketch by Thalia

Today be genuine, gentle and generous; keep your heart open to the new. And dance!

You’ll see my daily guide in the heart of this cinquain. I call it ‘my 3 G’s” (alliteration helps) and I crafted it for myself years ago when I was teaching, or reteaching myself, to be more authentic in the world.

It’s a daily reminder to stay grounded in the present day and be present for others.

Over the years I have expanded it to include dancing, because that’s how I enjoy moving through life. Each day offers a new stage on which to dance. Lots of times I stumble, but it’s all about movement. And for me it works.

Thanks go to Carolyn Hastings for her prompt and invitation to write a cinquain as a ‘daily guide’.

To delve more into the history and origin of American cinquain, here’s a link. And if you like Japanese poetry, you’ll enjoy seeing how cinquain poetry is rooted in haiku and tanka.
