GLOBETROTTERS — JANUARY WRITING CHALLENGE
My 2023 Travel (Wish) List
There is no charge for dreaming and visualizing when it comes to travel
I had an illustrious travel log in 2022 visiting six countries when I was on a sabbatical from work. I doubt I can compete with that kind of time to travel in 2023, but there is no charge for dreaming.
Antigua
I’ve been to a few islands in the Caribbean before but never to Antigua. I have a weekend trip planned in January and I am really looking forward to getting away for some sun and sand. Stay tuned for some pictures and my report of this West Indian island.
Anantpur, India
I haven’t been back home to India since 2018, but a short one-week trip in February is on the books. I am looking forward to visiting Anantpur, a small district in Southern India, and learning about some not-for-profit organizations that are doing great work in the region. Of course, I will visit my hometown of Chennai and meet up with some friends and family.
Now that I have two of the trips sorted out, I can start dreaming and visualizing for the remainder of the year.
Turkey
My four high school friends and I have been talking about a trip to Turkey since 2020. With the pandemic and life circumstances, we are yet to make the trip. We’ve tentatively targeted June 2023, but I am not sure if it will happen. In the meantime, I have been salivating looking at pictures and reading Jillian Amatt - Artistic Voyages’s account of her time in Turkey.
Iceland
One of the major reasons for wanting to go to Iceland is to chase the northern lights. Of course, I’d like to see nature and everything else the country has to offer. Let’s see if Iceland can happen this year. Until then, I will bask in Linda Ng’s glory.
Jordan
If I am allowed to be a tad bit ambitious in my wish list for this year, I would add Jordan. I have a good friend in Amman I’d like to visit along with a trip to Petra that has been on my bucket list. Darren Weir’s stories of his visit make me want to make the trip this year.
If I can add some domestic travel along the way, I’d like to visit Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks and make some trips to the beaches on the east coast.
