My not-so-private thoughts after 100 stories on Medium
Medium is a great platform for writers…I’m a writer at my core…but I had no idea that I would be celebrating my 100th story on Medium this year.
If someone had told me this would come to pass this year, I would have doubted them, expressly.
There are many reasons for this but chiefly amongst them is procrastination.
Not alcohol, not writer’s block, plain old, procrastination.
And I’m owning it — there’s no beating about the bush…my fault, 100%
Direct Benefits
Curiously, the platform ensures a writing discipline that is rare to me and for the first time in forever, I’ve finally committed to the publishing daily reality — even when I had failed with it, woefully, prior.
The curious thing?
This came effortlessly…I did not set out to publish daily…, as I indicated here, I planned to publish when inspiration found me — and not bother with any schedules at all.
However, when I found myself writing daily — and publishing same (for extended periods without fail), I decided to make it a fixed thing — at a fixed time.
0700 hrs, EST. Daily. 7 days a week.
Finally, a long-standing challenge had proved itself solved!
The Community Spirit
Finally, it’s the community spirit here that, in retrospect, keeps me coming back.
The connections, the contacts, and the awesome authors all make Medium — and the reality of writing here so effortless and importantly, worth it.
This, I believe, is Medium’s greatest selling point and I’m proud to be a part of it.

Thoughts on Making Medium Better
Medium is an awesome platform no doubt. However, after my 100th story here, there are a few things I wish were done differently:
- I wish I could directly share a great story when I come across one — and this shared story should be able to be shown on my feed for my audience to see.
- While the boost idea is a great one in itself, I believe it can be better — by making everyone a ‘boost nominator’; this story by Matthew Clapham expressly shares my sentiments.
- Finally, it would be nice to get advance notice of changes or at least, official announcements immediately after. Being a writer and the business of telepathy are almost mutually exclusive.
