You wake to the chill of the cold air against your skin.
The prisoner studies you, a frown creasing his forehead. “You’ve achieved the impossible.”
You press your fingers against your temples. “And that is?”
“You’re in worse shape than I am.”
You both share a laugh, the bubbly sound lifting the heavy atmosphere.
“My name’s Alaric.”
You tell the story of the burned village, reduced to ashes.
“When you’re no longer useful to him, you will suffer a similar fate.”
You clench your jaw. “What else should I know?”
Alaric’s eyebrows draw together in a scowl. “The Time Walker…”
