Thank you Sherry McGuinn for brightening up our day.

You are correct that we can all use a comic interlude, no matter what is going on. For the record, I actually took a shower today, cut my own hair and have a clean pair of shorts (I corrected the typo here that said I had a “clear” pair of shorts, glad I caught that one) and a t-shirt fresh from the laundry.

I don’t in any way judge your attire of a pink sweatshirt with a spot on the front and clown pants, Sherry, because that is exactly what I was wearing yesterday! Regardless of how many ice cream drips we have on our shirt currently, however, nothing is better than a good laugh and I welcome Sherry’s proviso today to laugh and pass it on.

By the way, I visited the park with those statues in your story photo on the west end of Vancouver back in 2013. My oldest son had an apartment just a few blocks from there while he was attending Emily Carr University.

So, without further ado I present you with timeless classics from the fire department annals of video comedy favorites:

First up an oldie, but everlasting classic that gives us Robin Williams talking about how alcohol advertisement should be a little more true-to-life. Who can ever forget, “It’s five am, you just peed on a dumpster, it’s Miller time?” Certainly not the firefighters that would roll out and respond to exactly that — or, probably worse.

Another classic because it hit close to home in that we got to see people in all manner of undress and duress was the series of clips from Saturday Night Live with Kate McKinnon describing her encounters with aliens.

One of her lines in the skit is one several of our members adopted when we would respond out to situations where the subject was doing something strange. Someone would likely paraphrase Kate’s character from this clip and say, “I don’t think we are dealing with the top brass.”

And of course, since sophomoric would be a generous description of firefighter humor, rather than its likely more accurate junior high level, we cannot forget another SNL classic straight from the vineyard that educates us on just how they get those corks into the bottles. Everyone knows you need to soak them first, and as Jimmy Fallon says, “I’ll never forget the first cork I soaked.”

A great deal of the fun from that one comes from watching Janet Jackson trying to hold it together and not break down laughing during the skit. You have to admire her resolve.

Thanks again, Sherry! “Funny” is subjective for sure, but it is definitely contagious when it catches. I enjoyed a great many laughs from your clips and hope I can generate a few more with these.

Because I would love to hear the results from the people you tagged, I am looping them into my response: P.G. Barnett, Stephen Sovie, Stephen Dalton, 🦄 Chris Hedges, Gurpreet Dhariwal, Kristi Keller, Suzanne V. Tanner, James Knight, Robin Klammer, Susan Brearley, Rasheed Hooda, Joe Luca and Helen Cassidy Page.

I hope they will do the same for me. I also think we should add Kevin Buddaeus and Charles Roast into the mix. I know they both enjoy a good laugh now and again.
