Monthly Theme: The Street Team
It’s that time of year again where writers start to disappear.
If you don’t know…
And you somehow haven’t heard yet…
Tomorrow Nanowrimo starts.
Our favourite writers will disappear, they’ll fade in to the mists of our memories. Their past stories will catch our eyes and pull at our hearts while their absence grows deeper and feels more permanent.
But never fear!
Some will share their progress, they’ll send smoke signals from their unfortunate keyboards as they smash out plots and scream through scenes.
Others may some who still write on Medium, the overachievers! We’ll throw rocks at them, the show-uppers!
In their absence…
You’ve been promoted. You’re the Street Team, you’ve been deputised!
Congratulations! Take a bow. Grab a medal and a wooden gun.
Pens are a dollar each, mind.
This month for all the writer’s standing on the sidelines
Looking on with horror, awe or a rueful, all-too-knowing smile, you’ve been called in to support.
Your words, those practice words, this habit forming and muscle building words, will be directed this month into the limp sails of erstwhile travellers on their lonely hero’s journey toward Mt NanoDoom.
You see, it’s easy to set out
It requires a thimbleful of bravery and courage to stand on your tavern table and spill our drinks and shout about how you’re going to slay a word dragon the likes of which us lazy tankard-draining ninnies will never see.
But that hope-drunken mug will stumble, they will falter.
But we shall not let them fall.
For we are a community of wordsmiths, hammer out the steel of our souls on the Blank White day in and day out.
They don’t need your ridicule. They need your support.
This month, all our prompts will ask you to empathise and rally behind another writer.
To imagine their struggle and help them be the hero they set out to be.
Some are attempting the 10x10 Challenge for crying out loud!
Nanowrimo is merely getting out of the starting blocks with a spirited group of word-sprinters for company.
Those poor sods are mad.
It’s all about massive word counts this month
Because they’re all focused on mountains of words, we’re bringing strict word counts back. But heading in the opposite direction!
We’ll use the countdown again to raise the tension as our fellows race toward the end (and help our editors, one of whom will be a lonely hero in need of more sand in the hourglass).
Word counts will start at 300 max and count down 200, 100, 50 each week. This is a monumental challenge for those in need of brevity.
Like this purveyor of puffy paragraphs.
The Gist:
- You’re the supporting Street Team.
- A Weekly Choice: Write about a heroic writer or 10X a tiny tale.
- Word counts count down each week.

If you haven’t accepted our challenge, then here’s how you get started:

Last Month’s theme was We Need A Hero
The world has many villains.
And last month we supplied our own most wanted list.
If you’re ever in need of a Villain to Vanquish, take your pick and tag the author so they can check out how you did away with them.
And if you’re curious and would like to add your own malevolent maker of malfeasance, then by all means draw up someone dastardly.
Top Stories This Month
These are our most enjoyed articles or stories this month by reader stats.
Open Mic Mondays:
For the first time this month, we opened up Mondays to writers in our community who wanted to share their own prompts or challenges
Kathy K’s first entry grabbed top spot:
P. L. Goaway ranked up next:
And Bradan the Butt Kicker took third place
Well done all!
Until Friday, keep writing. Keep smiling. 🚀
