Imagining THE WORLD Without Imagination — A Drabble Challenge
How would inventions not being invented change our world?
Do you remember the last time you were told to “Just use your imagination!”? Likely whoever you were talking to was fed up with your questions! At least that was true for me as a child.
If you’re like me, you have an insatiable curiosity and want to know how things work or you can’t stop the constant pictures that play ping pong in your head.
But what if there was no such thing as imagination? What if we didn’t have the ability to make things up and invent things? What would our world look like now if these discoveries and inventions hadn’t been imagined by someone in our past?
Electricity was discovered by Benjamin Franklin in 1759. Imagine your life without it. What would you be doing? How would you survive?
And then, more than 100 years later (1879) the electric bulb was invented by Thomas Edison. How many varieties of this invention have been used since then?
Finally, look at this partial list of inventions that literally changed the world. Each one was first imagined by someone and then made into reality. Imagine what your life would be like without these in it.
1876 — Telephone — invented by Alexander Graham Bell 1885 — Automobile — invented by Karl Benz 1902 — Air Conditioner — invented by Willis Carrier 1903 — Airplane — invented by the Wright Brothers 1927 — Television — invented by John Logie Baird 1927 — Refrigerator — invented by William Cullen 1971 — Email — invented by Ray Tomlinson 1981 — Laptop — invented by Adam Osborne 1989 — World Wide Web — invented by Tim Berners and Robert Cailliau 1992 — Smartphone — invented by IBM
Are you up for a challenge? If so, choose one or more of these inventions and write about what your life would be like without it. Make it fiction, imagine it, and have fun!

Now we all know that human beings can live without all of these inventions, with the exception of the smartphone, of course. 😄
What do you think? How would you deal with not having one or more of these imaginative inventions? How would you like to write a drabble (exactly 100 words) telling what your life would look like? Here is a drabble without the inventions of phones or internet for your reading pleasure…
“Oh, my goodness, look at the time,” Molly gasped, looking at her ornate wristwatch. “I really must get going.”
She hurriedly walked through the leafy front door of the hovel and started down the worn path. She would walk several miles just to deliver this message, as she did every time there was a message.
Breathless, Molly arrived at the old cabin under the evergreens and knocked loudly.
“Hello,” the voice was raspy and almost indistinguishable. “Come in,” wheezing, coughing accompanied the words.
Molly opened the door and greeted the old man with an urgent message.
“The British are coming!”
