Monthly Theme: Hope Springs Eternal

The world is plagued by climate disasters.
The oceans have risen and swallowed coastal cities. Storms ravage the land. Droughts have turned once-fertile farmlands into dust bowls.
And yet, amidst all this destruction, there is hope.
The community that pulls as one, knitted together by common purpose and adversity. Forged into something new, something transcendent.
But there is also despair
The unrelenting grind of our collective bones into dust. The forgotten majesty of humankind, the nearly-stellar civilisation that killed itself with hubris.
You see dear traveller there is a fork in The Road.
Cormac’s Choice, not Sophie’s.
You must choose. Only you can decide where this tale ends.
Humanity will face the same challenges regardless, but what they do and where they end up is all in your hands.
You could take the road less travelled…
The Road to Utopia
People have come together to find ways to adapt to the new world.
They have built floating cities, created drought-resistant crops, and developed new ways to harness the power of the sun and wind.
They have also learned to appreciate the things that they once took for granted, like fresh air and clean water.
In this new world, people have learned to live in harmony with nature. They've realized that they need to take care of the planet if they want it to take care of them.
As a result, they have created a Utopia where everyone can live happily and safely, despite the challenges of the climate.
Forging a new path for all.

“You forget what you want to remember, and you remember what you want to forget.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Road
Or you can take another path.
The one worn into the bones of the earth, the desaturated postcard of our possibly future times. The path the multitude trudge toward a mass grave.
The Road to Dystopia
The world is slowly being consumed by a never-ending series of natural disasters. The oceans are rising, the weather is becoming more extreme, and the land is being slowly eroded away.
The human race is struggling to survive, and our once-great civilisations are slowly being reduced to rubble.
We are living in a dystopian world where the natural world is slowly but surely winning the battle against us.
And worse we bicker and fight, we tear what fragile shelters other tribes build, as tyrants claw their way to the top of a mountain of skulls.
To sit on a throne of weaker souls.

“Nobody wants to be here and nobody wants to leave.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Crossover Month
This month Microcosm is collaborating with The Dystopian Project started by one of our friend Jann.
Microcosm is a supportive community that co-creates and collaborates, inspiring each other to greater heights.

So if you choose to walk towards Utopia, then write and share your stories at Microcosm.
But if you choose to crawl to Dystopia, please become a writer and share your stories at The Dystopian Project.
