Midjourney’s V6 Huge Update — The Pan Feature!

Will it bring higher quality results than V5.2?

David Holz, the founder of Midjourney, announced today's big updates!

“hey @everyone, three new updates tonight!

1) V6 now supports Pan / Zoom / Vary (Region)

• These options appear under v6 bot upscales and on the alpha website (except vary region on web)
• Pan now acts more like zoom. It should be easier to use and give higher quality results

(with more coherence and less repetition of concepts)

• Pan now works with upscale/vary/remix but doesn’t infinitely increase resolution anymore.

2) alpha.midjourney.com (with image creation) is now available to 5000-club

• The 5000-club includes everyone who has made least 5000 images on Midjourney
• Check how many images you’ve made with /info
• You can access the site here: http://alpha.midjourney.com/

3) New /feedback function

• This lets you submit your top priorities for Midjourney to work on
• You can rate other people’s priorities too
• We use this data to make a single big list to help our engineers figure out what to focus on
• We’ll review the list publicly at next office-hours and show cool visualizations for it
• Please update your priorities any time we launch new features (like with the new vary region launch above)

Now we will have a closer look at the pan feature!

We will start with this image and prompt. I created them for my new Gumroad shop, which will be filled with free and paid wallpaper, prompts, and guides.

You see the new features on the right side. I clicked the arrow button to the right direction. As a result, I got these four variations, which created a square image.

I upscaled the first one and made another pan to the left side. It created another four beautiful variations, and I liked the second image the best and upscaled it again.

I made two pan versions in the up direction and the results were pretty surprising!

I found numbers 1, 6, and 7 interesting and made a pan in the down direction! Here are the results:

Not every image is perfect, but some of them would make a great poster for print-on-demand. My favorites from those were:

Now I will compare the results of the pan feature in Midjourney’s V 5.2 version. I took the same prompt and made some small changes.

Yes, this is what V 5.2 looks like in comparison to V6. I liked the 3. image and made the same pan expansions, first to the left side, then right, then up and down.

We had this problem often in V 5.2 with a second head. It is still good to post it in a FB group “Cursed AI”.

I also tried this feature on Discord. It works the same, the advantage is the Vary (region) feature, which is only available on Discord.

Sometimes one image will be very appealing, but contain come artefacts, which you can change by using Vary (region) feature on Discord.

Change your prompt with pan!

When you make a pan on Discord, you can also change the prompt and add new things, which should appear in the new part of the image. I made a pan up and changed the prompt:
