Why do men and women have so different fantasies?

Men watch significantly more porn than women. This is not only a myth but proven by data. Women make up only about 30% of the visitors to porn sites.

The man doesn’t necessarily have to be a jerk, but in the stories mentioned he definitely has something dangerous about him. He is a vampire, a beast or a mysterious man with exciting, dangerous sexual preferences.

Where Do These Preferences Come From?

First of all, it can be said that men seem to be hornier in general, which is why they are more interested in casual sex, as the study described in this article showed.

This explains the male preference for porn, which is not about emotional connection but only about the satisfaction of sexual needs. Just like casual sex.

The female mating strategy

Women on the other hand tend to be a lot choosier when it comes to picking sexual partners. Evolutionary psychologists argue that this strategy evolved to maximize reproductive success. As women have to invest a lot of time, energy, and resources into a pregnancy, they better choose the best partner they can get.

This is probably why all these romance stories focus quite a lot on the mate selection part of the equation and not only on the act of sex.

Why are dangerous men so sexy?

It is also notable that the fantasy of a dangerous man seems to work very well. However, he is usually tamed by the woman. So you could conclude that it is very sexy when a man has the ability to be dangerous but is civilized as well.

If you want to give an evolutionary explanation here as well, you could say that in earlier times and even today it is naturally advantageous for a woman and her child if the man can be dangerous when he has to be in order to protect his family.

Probably this is also a reason that too nice men who do everything with themselves are rarely successful with women and always end up in the friendzone.
