Medium Writers Who Taught Me Something This Week
A shoutout and a thank you!
I am a firm believer that if someone helps you or teaches you something then you should be grateful. That said, I wanted to highlight some of the excellent Medium writers who have taught me something valuable this week.
The man who told me I was full of piss and vinegar. The undisputed king of being a bit odd. He taught me the word, Shakabuku. I did not know what that meant, so I looked it up.
Shakubuku “break and subdue” is a term that originates in the Chinese version of the Buddhist text, Śrīmālādevī Siṃhanāda Sūtra. The term has historically been used to indicate the rebuttal of false teachings and thereby break negative patterns in one’s thoughts, words and deeds.
He also taught me what a funnel was in terms of a mosh pit! He is fundamentally opposed to them, so don’t even try to start one in his presence.
TzeLin Sam is not only a remarkable poet, but she’s also funny as hell! In her article: 5 Things You Don’t Know About Christmas in Malaysia. I learned something. It is very common for people in Malaysia to eat out on Christmas day. That might not sound like a big deal, but in the UK, it is very rare.
People tend to cook and eat a big fancy dinner. We tend to make the same amount of effort for Christmas dinner as Americans do for Thanksgiving.
If you tell someone you ate out on Christmas day in the UK, you are certainly in the minority. People look at you like you’re some kind of Rockefeller.
Another incredibly talented poet and lover of all food Japanese. Britt taught me in her article: Wasabi ワサビ Japanese horseradish, that wasabi comes from the root of the Wasabia Japonica plant! I did not know that!
She also taught me that since I can’t handle anything too pungent due to my acid reflux, Wasabi would probably not be for me. Wise words from a wise woman.
A newish follower to me, I was taught by The Laro, why there are so many Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries in women’s football. It is a fascinating read, and I learned an awful lot about biology!
And of course, let’s not forget the biggest lesson of all. That particular hum-dinger comes from Liberty Forrest, Author. And the lesson is on the importance of remaining upright in perilous conditions!
