Relevance

If you’re doubting the relevance of Medium in this day and age let me remind you of an event that occurred on the platform just last month. On the 1st of June, former President Obama created an account and wrote an article in support of the BLM Movement; How to Make this Moment the Turning Point for Real Change. Not only does this show that Medium is still a hugely relevant online presence and source for any (including Presidential) lengthy thoughts but also reflects how useful it is. With the current ever-changing political climate, it is a tool to utilize in making change and sharing and collating new ideas.

According to Cheddar.com, “A Medium spokesperson noted that the company is approaching 100 million monthly readers”. Point being; there is room. There is room to both read and write. The same report stated that CEO of Medium, Ev Williams claims, “Medium is now focused solely on growing its number of paying subscribers”. Currently, with around 400,000 paying members, Medium must create incentives to convert non-paying readers. That’s more than 400,000 chances of a chunk of that yummy $5. There is still time and opportunity to begin writing on Medium in 2020.
