Medium Stats/Thanks January 2024

My Stats for January 2024 were… not great.

I started out this year and this month thinking positively. I got added to two different publications. Also, looking at my oscillating earning patterns from 2023, I suspected that I would swing up. Which, I made more than December…

I only made $6.64 this January.

It’s not like I wasn’t doing read for read. I have had a lot of people read my writing and I have been doing my best to read other people’s writings particularly in the new two publications I just joined. I spent many hours in January reading, highlighting, commenting, and clapping. I did. Even with a week of no Medium interaction as my home had no power (The Power to Write) I still spent a lot of time reading Medium within the month.

It’s also not like I wasn’t writing. I posted 3 erotic poems. I posted 2 non-erotic poems. I wrote two long pieces for my Little Red Journal series about my real-world sexual experiences. I wrote two blogs about writing.

I consider myself one of those people who writes because I have no other choice. I cannot stop myself from writing and I decided to embrace it. I’m not profiting right now. I read other people in Read or Die! telling me they made $800 in the first month. Pretty sure that had to do with their choice to sign up as a Friend of Medium the first month so the algorithm boosted their writing more. Which, congrats to them. No hate. I write what I want to write.

I know the stories that are more than an 8 minute read do not make any money on here. That’s why I posted more poetry. Someday here I’ll make a chart of the # of minutes Medium thinks it takes for a story to be read versus the $ earned. But I like writing longer pieces. I like reading longer personal essays that incorporate past experiences with thematic ideas tying into a cohesive conclusion.

I like writing things that I think are worthwhile. I don’t really want to share daily little nothings, even though I know that Medium rewards daily writing and daily reading. What I keep telling my family is that I’m building my audience. Which I am.

I’m up to 692 followers.

But what this chart doesn’t reflect is how many of those followers are actually interacting with my writing regular. All 692 followers do not read my writing daily. Just as I do not read a piece from all 872 people I follow. I’m not a bot. I’m not even a particularly fast reader.

A lot of my new follows and clicks seem to be from people who published a lot of filler content within a short period of time. I don’t know that they are AI generated content, but its hard to be motivated to read it. There are exceptions and I will be listing them in my thank you section below.

My mother just asked to read some of my writing. I remember sending her a story right before I entered my bachelor’s of fine arts in creative writing program. She told me it was really good. It was the fifth compliment I remember receiving from her. Mother is selective with her praise.

I want to send her something, but I publish under a pseudonym. Even though not everything I write is sexual, I can’t exactly send her my Medium account that has “lust” in the name and talks about my experience camming.

So do I start posting things places on another site under my real name? I don’t even introduce myself with my real name anymore. I started calling myself Lamb, because I associate ____ with my severe depressive episodes that leave me curled up on the floor under my desk. I have no physical transformation, but my legal name is a dead name nonetheless. That is the name I used in my old career, the career I can never return to that I loved.

I write because I have no choice. I’m compelled to expel poetry when the words manifest inside me (Poetry is Vomit). It’s something I must do to remain functional. I also know that people have been reading my writing and interacting with it. They talk to me about the things we’ve both written on this site. If the things I write are only worth $6.64 cents to Medium’s algorithm, so be it. It’s worth more to me.

Thank you for the people this month who liked and interacted with my writing. Yes I know some people have interacted with me in February already. I think I’m going to limit this to January only though because the list already will be quite long. I also know based on my earnings not all of these people actually spent 30 seconds on my writing. Still, I appreciate those who appreciated me.

Some of you I really owe a read back. My reading list right now is ridiculous, but I’m trying.

God, a lot of people interacted with my stories in the past month. I know I was complaining about the monetary reward, but that sheer number of people interacting with my writing is amazing. Now I just have to read everyone. Guess I’m reading for the next month straight.

If you like Lamb’s writing, please interact with her writing by clapping, highlighting, commenting, and reading for at least 30 seconds so Medium knows you have read it. If you want to see some of my other socials check out my linktree:
