Enjoying: Medium is Hard Work by Maria Grigorescu and she is mad as hell about the amount of claps that some writers give and also how the number of claps are viewed.

I noticed the follow-to-follow trend — I am followed and I get 50 claps until I read them and follow back, then they return with a measly 4 claps. Tricky, huh! Maria Grigorescu

The max says the writer did a great job, which motivates and is viewed positively. The minimum is viewed negatively and often demotivates the writer. Leaving them feeling like a failure.

I respect you enough to read and spend time in your story, and I clap 50 times and make a comment. How is that for being recognized? Does that make you feel good? Maria Grigorescu

We must never let a writer feel this way. Writers who writes from a place of understanding and gratitude never always a fellow writer to feel worthless.

If you only view and give 1 clap — it makes me wonder Why is that? Is it that bad? Maria Grigorescu

Many writers on Medium do complain and are offended by the number of claps they get from some writers.

Are you telling me that you have a rule of giving only 1–2–3–4–5 claps Maria Grigorescu

Some writer said their readers are ‘stingy’ with their claps.

Is this what you expect to receive for your stories, too? Maria Grigorescu

I give the maximum to every story I read. Nothing less. You get my best every time!

If I liked it why not properly reward the writer for it? Maria Grigorescu

I encourage writers to refrain from taking anything on this platform personally. Go out there, give, and do your best no matter what you get.

Many writers aren’t aware that reputation is one of the elements that increase and decrease reads, views, and the amount of money a writer earns.

According to Google:

What is the meaning of the word reputation?

Your reputation is the general belief or opinion that other people have about you. If you are considered trustworthy and kind, you have a good reputation. Reputation comes from the Latin word reputationem, which means “consideration.” It’s how people consider, or label, you — good or bad.

When you develop a reputation anywhere you go, it will help or harm any chances you have to achieve success. The competition on Medium is overwhelming.

Smart writers don’t compete. Don’t complain about the money, because they are not here for the money. They have their unique ways of getting their message across and they support all writers of all genres. They are here to make a difference, and most did so effectively and positively. They are happy with what they do and positively influence everyone. Everyone is given the max claps, for motivation, effort, and a job well done.

If we give the support we want, no one loses. That means everyone wins.

If you want it, then give it!

Many successful writers on this platform, their reputation for being supportive, and positive, giving their best to everyone, motivating writers, and sharing kindness and love are what puts them at the top and makes them stand out among the best. Their power of words takes second place.

Be the supportive writer you want others to be to you.

I can tell when a reader just scans through my story. I am aware of all of the readers who barely scrape through my story. It doesn’t bother me. Because reading yours, I learned something about you and what you write. I get inspired to write a story from your power of words.

Thanks to you, I can educate, motivate, inspire, uplift, and entertain someone. I can provoke thoughts, and get smiles and laughter. Then I get paid too. The number of stories I added to Medium increased, and I got more views and readers too.

So, whether you read mine or not, I read yours, learn something, and win as I develop a reputation that will keep me on this platform, long after I am gone.

Reputation saves lives. Reputation will take you to places nothing else will. Reputation open or lock doors. It will carry you further than your feet, car, and any mode of transportation that you take or own. Or drop you on the side of the road. Reputation does things for some of us, positively our hearts, souls, minds, actions, and intentions can’t do. Heck, it lives on and protects our future generation, too.

On this platform, build a reputation for being a positive and supportive writer. It will find its way back to you in ways that will surprise you!
