Medium Gave Me a Bonus

When I told you guys that Medium gives you with one hand and takes with the other, it was just a figure of speech related to the site algorithm and the many changes that the monetization system has undergone over time.

When I said that, I had no clue how true that would be in the actual sense. Well, it turns out Medium gave a one-time bonus for receiving high member engagement. Check this stuff out:

Wow, 35 bucks might not be much based on August rates, but considering the drop that took place in October, this looks like a godsend. I am very proud to see that having a loyal and lovely audience has given me some advantage.

I heard that some other people got the same bonus. Now my question is, did we all get the same amount or not? I know others don’t want to share their profit, but they could just answer with a yes or no in the comments section.

Anyway, this is totally unexpected, and it does look like Medium threw some scraps at us to soften our pain related to the drop in earnings. I do not mind at all; I welcome them to do so even more from now on.

Now, my other question is, will our earnings be adjusted a second time for the bot hack, or is this bonus the adjustment itself? I guess that remains to be seen.

That’s a good psychological tactic, you know. First, you give people something good. Then you take it from them, and after a prolonged period of nothing, they will see even the tiniest gesture as a blessing. That’s the making of a toxic relationship or manipulation 101, lol.

But I can’t complain. Give me the scraps, Medium. I’m a cockroach!

UPDATE: This bonus is actually the adjustment, recalculation, and redistribution of the money that was recovered from the bot scam incident that took place between September 18th and October 4th.

The Medium staff said a while back that they would recalculate and redistribute the stolen funds to those of us who were affected by the scamming incident, and this is it.
