Medium Friends Reading Club: Your First MEMBER Assignment!
Don’t all the best clubs usually have activities?

Hello to all the Medium Friends Reading Club members who signed up and committed to helping one another succeed.
In a moment, I’m going to share with you, your very first member assignment — one that’s optional of course, but should prove to be a lot of fun.
Since all the best clubs usually have some type of club activities every now and then, I decided it was time we had one, to help us really get acquainted with one another.
In fact, doing a little bonding with fellow club members is what I had hoped for, when I first organized this club.
My vision included…
Creating ways to connect and benefit from the MFR club
In spite of all the noise and negative talk surrounding the FOM, I wanted to have a club that would connect on a meaningful level, all to the benefit of every member in the club.
Hopefully, all of you are doing a good job of supporting one another, in addition to staying true to the rest of your Medium tribe, whether they decided to upgrade their accounts or not.
👉 That’s the cool thing about this particular club.
- It’s not about looking down on those who don’t join the club.
- It’s about looking up to those who do.
👉 Not with our superior noses stuck up in the air, like we’re actually the sh*t or something.
👉 But simply in a way that says to other members: “I see you and get where you’re coming from.” (Because frankly, not all Medium members do)
Club members get one another, because we recognize some of the same motives and driving forces within our fellow club members, because we’re mostly driven in a similar way.
Whether for monetary reasons:
Or in a non-monetary way:
It’s true, that the club is growing, and that’s totally cool.
Our current roster is at 30+ members, until I update it, with the latest requests.
That’s not truly a lot of people to try and cozy up to, but you still can’t meet them all at once, so my suggestion is that you don’t even try.
You’d be surprised just how much you can accomplish and how much terrain you can cover, by taking things at a normal pace, and breaking down the the number into manageable groups.
That’s the method I use, and it enables me to go from one group to the next, after having some effective reading sessions.
These are the types of things we’ll be discussing in the upcoming club newsletter, so I hope you all start getting your thoughts together, and prepared to share some of your experiences.
I plan to do all I can, to bring us together as a closer group, even as we continue to grow in size.
So here’s what I have in mind…
Let’s make some money with themed stories
I have an idea, for us all to make some money sharing themed stories, and have some fun in the process.
Since this story is being published on January 14th, that means that Valentine’s Day is one month away.
I propose that everyone begin getting their V-Day stories together, either by starting to dust some old ones off, or by creating some brand new ones.
I plan to share some story titles and links in the newsletter’s first issue.
📌 Official Name: MFR Club Newsletter
Official Launch Date: Sunday: 2|4|2024.
I’m still starting out with just one issue per month, but for now, I think it’s more fitting that the issue comes out at the beginning of the month, not at the end.
And what better month to start in, than February, a month known for showing love.
Notice what kind of love I want to show some of your themed stories.
I have something special in mind, for the first two weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day. If all goes as planned, the entire club should see a nice tidy profit by the end of next month.
I want us all to try and benefit from sharing and circulating some of our best VDay themed stories.
So my dear club members, here’s your mission, if you decide to accept it…
💰I’ll Promote Your VDay Stories💰
My plan to help promote your VDay stories, leading up to Valentine’s Day is a simple one.
✅ No one has to submit anything at all, and you don’t have to request to be a writer.
✅ All you NEED to do is make sure to properly TAG your stories.
✅ All stories MUST be available for me to locate, no later than Friday: Feb 2, 2024 [12 noon PST]
So here’s the deal:
Any club members who write a story, or tag an older story based on the prompts or themes below 👇🏻 can get some love and exposure in the first issue of the club newsletter.
👉 Choose one or even all these THEMES for your prompts:
- Best Valentine’s Day Ever!
- Worst Valentine’s Day Ever!
- Funniest Valentine’s Day Ever!
- Scariest Valentine’s Day Ever!
- Weirdest Valentine’s Day Ever!
- Most Boring Valentine’s Day Ever!
👉 You can help the stories be found, by making sure to use these TAGS:
Best VDay | Worst VDay | Funniest VDay Scariest VDay | Weirdest VDay | Boring VDay |
I’ll be able to list the story titles in the newsletter, once I find them by doing a search for ALL the above tags.
Also, between the 14th and the remainder of the month of February, I’ll be curating the stories, based on the themes, and adding the lists to my Story Curators publication for others to discover.
Remember, if you already have previously published stories that may fit any of the above Valentine’s Day themes, all you have to do is add the proper tag, so it can be found.
Of course, you can always feel free to update an older story and give it a fresh look, but that’s totally up to you.
There are no stringent rules or restrictions, as far as what you write about, how you write about it, or how long the stories should be.
Fiction, real life, or even a little bit of both is all fair game. Just as long as you have fun with it 😄.
Final Thoughts
Once again, this is a Medium Friends Reading Club activity, created just for club members, as a way for us to start knowing one another better.
Will other non-FOM scoff, or even those FOM who are not club members?
Probably so…
But that’s okay. What else is new?
Why shouldn’t we be entitled to have a little fun, and scratch each other’s back?
Aren’t we already scratching everyone else’s back, by kicking in an extra 10 bucks a month, to help other writers earn more?
📌 I for one, don’t see a problem with enjoying our club and the privilege that membership allows us.
After all, others are more than welcome to join us, and it’s so easy peasy for them to make that happen.
Now my friends, go get cracking on those VDay stories, and don’t forget to pay attention to the themes, so you include the necessary tags to find your story.
Thanks for reading…
