Is “blog” a noun or a verb?

Ev Williams used the word blog as a noun and as a verb, according to Wikipedia. Let us not forget that Ev, before Medium, was one of the guys who started Twitter, and before that, he sold Blogger to Google for an undisclosed amount in 2003.

“It is fair to say, Ev loves to write, read and blog.”

Medium.com is changing in 2021.

Change is coming.

Suppose you are new to Medium, don't think that you are late for the party. I have been an early adopter of Medium in 2017. But, unfortunately, I didn't stay long because of self-doubt.

Last year, in 2020, I became a writer, and it took me a long time to believe that I can write.

“A word of advice — the best is yet to come for writers and bloggers. ”

Medium is changing very fast. At first, it wanted to be relational, which is good for new writers like me.

It is why I am saying that while those who got in here first have gained a lot of followers over time, even us who are only starting can build an audience.

“And the only way to reach your “tribe” is by writing consistently and regularly.”

When I did my writing challenge on steroids — write 100 stories in 10 days, I gained more than 100 followers, readership increased, and in the end, it all paid off, as I got the last writing bonus, Medium is giving out to its writers.

Subsidized publications are gone.

In a major announcement, Medium cut off its funding from their in-house publications. Nobody knew until the announcement that popular publications such as P.S. I Love You were being subsidized.

Medium as a company was almost crucified, but I understand that the digital landscape changes as someone who follows tech trends. It is easy for a tech company to fail when it no longer serves its market.

“Yahoo failed where Google flourished. ”

And then, the new features were rolled out like the Blogroll, which makes it easy for new writers to be discovered.

The list is another new feature that I am beginning to explore, and it is another way for writers to repurpose their content and create a list of topics, authors, and stories they follow.

“The possibilities are endless. ”

A few days ago, the email subscription feature was revamped. Medium has made it even easier to build your audience, and there are now two ways to gain traction on Medium by having followers and email subscribers.

Finally, related posts.

Does it feel like WordPress or even Blogger?

I saw this today J.J. Pryor as I was reading an old post on my small publication, and when I went to other publications I follow, I saw the new feature sporadically.

It could still be in a beta phase right now.

I love related posts, even on other platforms and especially on news sites. It gives me suggestions on what to read next.

Final thoughts.

As writers, we would never agree with everything that Medium does because we don’t own the platform.

If you want complete control, then you need to have a website.

Even when it didn't have to give out writing bonuses, it did, yet some still complained.

Conversations are good, and I know Medium listened; that is why the rules changed how the bonuses were awarded.

“Medium launched a writing contest, and even that is being scrutinized. ”

I only watch the changes happening as I see it as part of the company's strategy because the competition is intense, and when companies remain the same, they lose, and it is sometimes hard to undo a big mistake.

Some question the changes, as some would rather live in the past when it was easy for them to earn money on this platform.

I see the changes would benefit us, writers, to focus on what we do best, which is writing.

We don't have to stress getting tools to help us build our audience, marketing, and understand the technology behind Medium.

We can focus on what we do best, which is writing.

I enjoy this new feature, related posts will show me others stories from the same topic, and it will also lead me to discover new writers to follow.

And I hope the same happens to me. If you see any related posts that I wrote, I wish you would take the time to read them, clap and leave a comment.
