Medium Bold, Italicized, or Hyperlinked Text
How to add bold, italics, or links to your Medium article

If you are a relatively new writer on Medium, you have likely wondered:
How do I properly bold, italicize, and hyperlink the text in my articles?
This article will provide a quick overview of how to do just that. All of these three formatting tools are accessed through the Medium editor toolbar. The Medium editor toolbar appears when you select (highlight) text with your cursor. The toolbar is show below:

Bold
Select the text you want to format to open the text toolbar and click the B button to apply the formatting.
Italics
Select the text you want to format to open the text toolbar and click the i button to apply the formatting.
Links
To create a hyperlink in your post, select the text you want to convert into a link to open the text toolbar, click on the chain icon in the toolbar to hyperlink the selected text, paste or type in a link, and press Enter.
An example of all three of these is shown below:

Additional Notes on Creating Bold, Italicized, or Linked Text
- None of these three functions will work on article titles or headers
- Only hyperlinks will work on subtitles or sub-headers.
- Hyperlinks are the only one of these three functions that will work on text contained in a pull quote.
- All three functions will work on text contained in a block quote.
- You can add hyperlinks to article title kickers.
