Medium Algo Magic in April, Increasing Earnings Trends
There is an interesting uptrend in Medium performance after the great March purge.
It’s been an interesting and exciting first week of April.
Like most other writers, I share my progress on Medium on the first of every month.
You’ll see a “stats fatigue” trend in Medium posts in the first 3 days of each month.
However, given what I’m seeing in the first week, I had to post this and see who else is seeing it.
March Recap

March Summary
March cumulative earnings: $44.58
March Daily Average Views: 40
March Daily Average Reads: 16
March EPR (Earnings Per Read): 9c
March RR (Read Ratio): 40%
These were despite challenges from the Great Medium Purge© in March. You can read the entire summary here:

April Trends

April Summary (till EOD 6-Apr-2024)
April cumulative earnings: $23.56 (I am >50% of March in under a week)
April Daily Average Views: 53 (vs. 40 in March)
April Daily Average Reads: 28 (vs. 16 in March)
April EPR (Earnings Per Read): 14c (vs. 9c in March)
April RR (Read Ratio): 53% (vs. 40% in March)
The exciting part is that the EPR is increasing each day of the week — I’m excited to cross EPR 20c yesterday!
I’d be foolish to believe that my Writing has magically improved in the past 5 days to get this outcome.
Observations
Here are my top Observations for this increasing trend in all factors:
- The purge of Bots and bad actors has resulted in better Medium earnings distributions.
- The purge of bots has resulted in better RR and corresponding EPR.
- The distribution of posts across people has improved (?)
- The Pubs I write to generally (Write A Catalyst, Word Garden) have increased my Readership base.
- I also made a small change in my profile (enabled subdomain on 31st March) — this may not be a thing, and I’ll post at the end of the month if I see it as a factor!
Who else is seeing this trend? And how is it affecting your Medium performance?
Let me know if you want to share any tips for me to leverage this trend.
