May Our Loving Fierceness
Weave us into a tapestry of honourable togetherness
Verse One
May our loving fierceness Weave us into a tapestry of honourable togetherness
For we are the truth tellers From the same burnt and besmirched family tree Our roots lie deep in the soil, unseen Across time and space, from when we were cave dwellers Surviving in deserts of deception Or arctic frozenness Let us hold hands and each other, Bless.

Noora Kassem kindly responded to an article I wrote late last night, after attending a creative writing workshop at a local university which left me feeling alone, rebuked and quite bereft. Her comment was wise and wonderful as she said… ‘May our loving fierceness…’
This sounded like an incantation to me and later on, I responded with the verse above…
Her words were so evocative for me, so the verse above just came fully formed in to my mind… The title ‘May Our Loving Fierceness’ is a phrase from the actual comment she left.
For now I will call it a working title….
Because I invite anyone who reads the article Noora responded to (link is below) to add a verse — and share with me on Liberation Notes or on the comments here. I will then publish all the verses that people submit, which cohere in a way that makes sense…
Thus let us connect and co-create, over the forces that seek to alienate and separate, the forces that seek to sow fear and hate.
Here is the article, dear Reader.
Let’s forget about borders, boundaries, and the pigeonholes given to us by our upbringing and just respond, with the full beauty of our shared humanity. To me, this would be resistance poetry at its best.
I invite Leif Olson, Lola Rosario, Farida Haque, www - writes while walks, and Capt Eissa to contribute a few lines or a verse in the comments, or directly to Liberation Works. And thanks to the editor of Priyanka at ‘Literary Impulse’ for publishing this. Priyanka Srivastava please join in if you wish !
I also really wish to thank all the people (some mentioned above) who have responded with so much warmth and kindness to me after I shared this experience. Of course, anyone reading who feels they would like to contribute, is welcome to do so as well.
Let us co-create, and like an incantation, envision new realities in order to manifest them. With Love. Or maybe we can use the Urdu word, ‘Piyaar’ which evokes, associations of tenderness, nurturance and the blessing of true, comradely friendship.
For those new to the publication ‘Literary Impulse’ I recommend the following outstanding recently published article for its relevance to those of us struggling to make sense of the current colonial-settler dynamics and our role in wielding pen, keyboard and the interconnectivity of the internet — something that the anti-colonial poet Yeats did not have access to.
