  • The author encourages reader participation in the story's progression, suggesting a preference for interactive fiction.
  • The inclusion of a membership promotion suggests the author values reader support and the platform's ability to foster connections between writers and audiences.
  • The mention of the author's other work, "Can a Web-Novel Work on Medium?" implies a reflection on the storytelling medium and possibly an endorsement of Medium as a platform for serialized fiction.

This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. You can check out Chapter 1 of this story, ‘The Burned Village’, or check the previous chapter: ‘Stealthy Like a Rat’, by JF Danskin.

You push past the orcs at the door. Like everyone else in the throne room, they’re occupied by a bloody contest in the arena below.

Below, you catch a glimpse of orcs with spears. There are other figures there too, some of them in chains… prisoners? Gladiators? You need a closer look…

What you can see clearly is Marroz himself. The huge, bloated ogre’s fat head is almost as pale as his eyes; random spikes protruding around his ears and whiskered cheeks.

You shudder.

A balcony circles at a high level; broad marble steps lead down to the main area.

Do you…
