Summary

The website content introduces a series of daily writing prompts for March, with a special focus on St Patrick's Day for the first 17 days, and encourages writers of all commitment levels to participate.

Abstract

The author of the article has been absent (MIA) from their writing routine due to personal circumstances, such as moving, which has disrupted their daily writing habit. Despite this, they have prepared a new set of writing prompts for the month of March to help maintain the momentum built from previous challenges in January and February. The prompts are designed to be flexible, catering to both dedicated writers and "dippers" who prefer to engage with the prompts intermittently. Participants are encouraged to write up to 500 words on the given topics, tag the author in their responses, and share their stories, which are expected to range from heartfelt to heartbreaking. The first 17 prompts are themed around St Patrick's Day, and the author promises to engage with the participants' work despite their current backlog.

Opinions

  • The author acknowledges their recent absence from the writing community and attributes it to being overwhelmed and exhausted, likely due to a recent move.
  • They introduce the concept of a "dipper," a term used to describe someone who enjoys writing challenges but cannot commit to writing daily, suggesting a non-judgmental and inclusive approach to writing habits.
  • The author believes that the March writing prompts, despite being random, will inspire a wide range of emotional stories from the participants.
  • They express a desire to catch up with the community's work and promise to engage with the responses to the prompts, indicating a commitment to fostering an interactive writing environment.
  • The author seems to value transparency and personal connection, as they are open about their struggles and encourage others to share personal stories, even offering the option to remain anonymous for those who prefer it.

March Madness: Aren’t You Lucky, Challengers?

Another month of writing prompts

I’ve been MIA.

In fact, I’ve been so MIA I’ve brought a whole new meaning to the acronym.

Some of you may have been wondering (or panicking) what you’re gonna be doing for the month of March… Don’t worry I’ve got you covered.

You’ve got into the habit of writing every single day and now you’re wondering how the hell you’re supposed to sustain it.

Thanks to the January challenge, we got into a real rhythm.

Then came February, and those who kept at it, well, they kept at it.

Not me though. By the time I crawled, hobbled or fell into bed at night, I’d log into Medium and be overwhelmed with a never-ending list of mentions.

I’d think to myself, right, tonight is the night I get through all of them. Then I’ll write mine… While reading the first story, I’d fall asleep, phone in hand.

I’ve been waking up to a dead phone every morning because I’ve been too tired to even plug it in to charge. (The charger is right beside my bed, mere centimetres from where I lay).

Moving has made me lose my rhythm and because of this, I think I’ve become a dipper.

dipper noun:

a dipper is one who enjoys the idea of a challenge but cannot possibly sustain the habit of writing every single day; a dipper may choose to dip in and out of the prompts when inspiration calls or time permits.

Whether you’re a dipper or the crazy commitment type, here are the prompts for March.

There’s a limit of 500 words but you can interpret the topics anyway you like. Leave me a comment on this post if you’re up for the challenge and don’t forget to tag me in your responses. (I will get to them, I promise… I’m just playing catch up).

Just to add a little lightheartedness and humour to the prompts, the first 17 days are celebrating St Patty’s Day. (Prompts are easier for me to write when I have a theme to work around).

  17. Do you celebrate St Patricks Day?

  29. What was your first job?
  30. Have you ever joined a protest, or wanted to but haven’t?

Well, that’s it. Are the prompts rather random? Yes.

Am I rather exhausted? Yes.

Will the prompts produce some heartfelt, heartwarming, heartbreaking stories? Most definitely.
