Making Delicious 3 Ingredient Yoghurt with an Instant Pot

The most annoying probiotic treat just became easier than pie to make

Before today, I’d never in my life been capable of making a yoghurt that anyone would want to eat. No matter what technique I tried, it either came out watery or full of lumps.

This always baffled my friends who’ve always loved to eat all the cheeses I make. They couldn’t understand how making a robust cheddar is so much easier for me than making an edible yoghurt.

Until today that is..

My Instant Pot just sitting and waiting to be useful

Instant Pot

Over the holiday period I splurged and bought myself an Instant Pot. I only knew these things existed because they were topping the Christmas sales charts and I was curious what the heck they were.

It turns out they’re like slow cookers.. except fast. You throw all your ingredients into the pot and pressure cook it in half the time it would normally take. I was curious, so I got one online while the getting was good.

I had to wait until after the holidays were actually over to start my experimentations. I didn’t want my new-fangled machine potentially ruining Christmas dinner while I was still figuring out how to use it. But once January rolled around, it was time to go crazy.

A friend of mine told me about this recipe over the phone roughly 5 seconds after I told her I’d bought an Instant Pot. So I thought “what the hell?” And gave it a try.

Boy am I glad I did.

The magical 3 ingredients for yoghurt

Ingredient List

  • 1.3 litres of full cream milk
  • A can (roughly 2 cups) of condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yoghurt

Yes we’re using yoghurt to make this yoghurt. Why? Because we need probiotic bacteria growth in the milk and doing it with existing yoghurt is much faster and easier than alternative methods.

Let’s Get Started

Open up your milk and pour 2 cups into the Instant Pot removable pot. Then add the entire can of condensed milk to the pot and whisk until well combined.

You should now add the two tablespoons of yoghurt to the mix and once again whisk until very well combined. After that, pour in the rest of the milk and whisk once again.

Your yoghurt is now prepared! Place the removable pot back into the Instant Pot and turn it onto Yoghurt setting.

Change the time to say 8 hours and press start. Now walk away and let it do its thing.

Once it’s done, open the lid and smell the results. It should smell sweet and delicious. Poke a spoon into the yoghurt to test the consistency, it should be thick and creamy.

It’s not done yet though! Pour the yoghurt into a sealable container and put it into the fridge for another 8 hours to cool and settle. Now it’s done!

The taste of the final result is creamy but plain. Jazz it up with fruit and granola mmmmmm.

And there you have it, a probiotic and delicious way to start your day. Please let me know how yours turns out! And definitely let me know the various ways you decide to jazz up the yoghurt to make it even more delicious.

Happy eating!
