“The noblest art is that of making others happy” — P.T. Barnum

I watched The Greatest Showman with my daughters last night. I know it is probably more dramatic than real life. But it gave me a good reminder about writing here on Medium.

We could use a lot more positivity and happiness.

It made me think, how could we as a community of writers do this? How could we encourage one another more? How might we spread a little happiness? What are the ways to share some positivity?

Share the Love, Encourage, Spread Happiness

“Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Then I realized, we could challenge each other to share some love around our writing circles. It doesn’t have to be anything wild and crazy. But simple, kind actions.

I did this a while back with this post:

But this is only one way we can do this. I came up with a few more ways to encourage, lift up, help out, and spread a little joy and happiness right here on Medium.

10 Ways to Spread Happiness on Medium

  1. Leave a comment on someone’s story.
  2. Clap 50 times on all the stories you read today.
  3. Share someone’s story on Social Media.
  4. Pick up someone's book.
  5. Like their Facebook page.
  6. Follow them on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram.
  7. Sign up for someone's email list.
  8. Send someone an encouraging private note,
  9. Set up a call with someone to chat about writing, blogging, or Medium.
  10. Leave a review for someone’s book.

These are only a few ways to share love, encourage others, and spread happiness here on Medium and throughout our writing communities. If you have other ideas, leave a comment below.

The Challenge

I challenge you to spread some happiness. Pick something from the list above and try and hit up three other writers today. It won’t take too long, and these simple actions can make a huge difference for someone!

Go make someone happy today!
