Make Kindness Your Ritual

Three micro stories

Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash

Ritual

As a child, Grace made unpleasantness her ritual. She teased the other girls and terrorised teachers.

“When I’m rich, you’ll regret being so mean” she sneered at her loving parents.

Years later, cowering alone under a threadbare cover, she felt her first pang of remorse.

Questions

Freddie never stops asking questions. When his big sister calls him inquisitive, he asks what that means.

“It means you never stop asking questions” she says.

Freddie takes a long drag of his cigarette. He stares at the ground.

“Have I wasted my life?”

Reminisce

Alone in her front room, she reminisces about the future.
