There are tons of magazines and websites that will accept freelance submissions. However, they are all looking for different things, and a large percentage do not pay at all. Boulevard is a literary magazine, and it is 100% freelance written. As a literary magazine, they do not read submissions all year. They only accept submissions between November 1 — May 1, so if you are interested, you should bookmark them for later!
Nonfiction: Book excerpts, essays, opinions, photo features, interviews. Word count is up to 8,000 words. Payment is $100.00–300.00.
Fiction: Mainstream, ethnic, experimental, novel excerpts, short stories, slice of life vignettes. Up to 8,000 words. Pays $50.00–500.00, sometimes higher.
Poetry: Free verse, avant-garde, traditional, haiku. Send up to 200 lines. $25.00–250.00.
